Barkley House Publishing was founded in loving memory of Barkley—our joyful, gentle, and fiercely loyal pup—whose spirit continues to inspire every story we help bring to life.
For 11 beautiful years, Barkley was more than a pet—he was a guardian, a healer, and a steadfast companion. He had an extraordinary sensitivity to those around him, often sensing illness before it was spoken, and he remained faithfully by our side through every season of life. His deep, soulful stare had a way of reaching right into your heart, as if he were trying to tell you something only he could understand. Even in his final days, facing a terminal condition, Barkley’s will to stay with us never wavered. The veterinarians were amazed by how fiercely he fought to hold on—proof of the love and loyalty that defined his life. He is missed every single day.
His story is too meaningful, too powerful, and too full of love to be captured in a single book. While his brother Lemmy is honored in the children’s story, Lemmy and the Shark Cave, we knew Barkley’s legacy needed something more. So we created this: a publishing house rooted in his spirit—his quiet strength, unwavering love, and deep presence.
What began as a personal tribute has grown into a vibrant space for writers and storytellers—especially first-time and independent authors—to find encouragement, guidance, and a true sense of creative community.
